One of the first angel paintings I made featured the words of the poem “What Cancer Cannot Do” by an unknown author. A friend has shared the poem and it seemed a great pairing of words to have with an angel.<\/p>

Over time, I started studying more about positive psychology and learned there was more power of intention when using positive versus negative word choices. The original poem uses the word “cannot” repetitively with negative verbs such as kill, invade, corrode, or destroy. The mind is not good at separating the “can” and “cannot” on a deeper level. It is like stating “don’t think of pink elephants” and your mind produces images of pink elephants.<\/p>

This insight inspired a reworking of the poem’s intention so there were only positive words used throughout it. There are a variety of different variations emphasizing “I Choose” as its theme with an event such as cancer. The one below is “My Life, My Choice” cancer poem. The other variations swap out the change of “cancer” for another event or move “Feel Beauty, My Life” to the beginning of the poem.<\/p>

My Life, My Choice<\/strong>
Cancer can change my body,
but I choose my life\u2026
I choose to embrace peace.
I choose to build friendships.
I choose to cherish sweet memories.
I choose to accept grace.
I choose to have courage.
I choose to believe in hope.
I choose to welcome faith.
I choose to know love.
I choose to want my life.

I used this poem to create “My Life, My Choice Green Cancer Angel” painting. It is a multimedia painting of acrylic paint, pastel, and glitter on canvas board.<\/p>

The art is made available to the public in multiple ways. Original paintings are provided on loan to medical clinics or wellness centers. Art prints and postcards are distributed to the public for personal use mainly through medical clinics and non-profit wellness organizations. The public can also request limited art royalty use. Recipients sign a contract describing how they will use the art. Examples include using it on a wellness cards, cancer boutique mailers, fundraiser walk t-shirts, banners, and local clinic posters. Groups locally fund printing costs and include an art credit reference into the design. DonnaBellas Angels reviews and approves a design mock-up prior to printing. Shohini Ghosh, World Renown Sculptor, created \u201cMy Angel\u201d sculptures made in soft stress foam. DonnaBellas Angels\u2019 motto is, \u201cMedicine Heals the Body, Art Heals the Soul\u201d. Laurel Latto, DonnaBellas Angels\u2019 artist and founder, came to the idea of creating the non-profit after working in cancer research and appreciating the importance of emotional wellness in coping with stress, anxiety, and depression that may accompany an illness for patients and their loved ones. The art is made available to the public in multiple ways. Original paintings are provided on loan to medical clinics or wellness centers. Art prints and postcards are distributed to the public for personal use mainly through medical clinics and non-profit wellness organizations. The public can also request limited art royalty use. Recipients sign a contract describing how they will use the art. Examples include using it on a wellness cards, cancer boutique mailers, fundraiser walk t-shirts, banners, and local clinic posters. Groups locally fund printing costs and include an art credit reference into the design. DonnaBellas Angels reviews and approves a design mock-up prior to printing. Shohini Ghosh, World Renown Sculptor, created \u201cMy Angel\u201d sculptures made in soft stress foam.
