A swim across the San Francisco bay is challenging to any adult but is an extra challenge when you are only 11 and a girl. Shewli Ghosh is up to the challenge of the over one mile swim in the cold rough ocean that she initially completed the first time in 2009 at age 10. She plans to swim in support of DonnaBellas Angels which provides inspirational healing art to those coping with a chronic or terminal illness. Money raised will be designated for “My Angel”. This project is special to her since her mother, Shohini Ghosh, designed the “My Angel” sculpture. Shewli explained, “The swim will be difficult but not as challenging as having to fight cancer. ‘My Angel’ was created by my mom to help people find hope as they receive treatment. My grandma and great grandma are both breast cancer survivors and that is why I know hope is important.”
The “My Angel” sculpture was created so patients can decorate it to provide themselves with hope. Family and friends can add their signatures and/or messages to add their support. The angels were created with the idea of having a personal angel for a patient to keep and carry with her or him. "My Angel" will help provide a patient with inspiration and support throughout the medical treatment process.
"My Angel" will have a special story to each patient and their loved ones. DonnaBellas Angels will collect pictures and stories of each “My Angel” and share them as inspirational messages of healing and love. These sculptures are made to be held by hands of all sizes. The angels will be smooth, light weight foam, palm size and white color.
To date, Shohini designed and cast the first series of therapeutic angels in white resin. Hospitals such as Cancer Therapy and Research Center (San Antonio, TX) and Children’s Hospital Cancer Center (Houston, TX) have been recipients of these angels. The goal of DonnaBellas Angels is to create a new version in soft stress-relieving foam. Shewli’s initial goal is to raise funds to create 10,000 angels for distribution to medical clinics and wellness centers.
Angels will be provided as gifts to patients so donations given will help provide the angel gifts. Make a donation to DonnaBellas Angels for Shewli’s swim on our My Angel Donation page.
